Tobacco Reduction
Since 2002, the Colchester East Hants Health Authority has identified tobacco reduction as a priority. The facilities of the Health Authority are all tobacco free, including smoke free grounds. The Health Authority does not allow smoking in vehicles while on Authority property.
Tobacco Reduction Strategy
Tobacco reduction requires a comprehensive approach that addresses all 7 key components of the Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection Tobacco Reduction Strategy. In keeping with the provincial strategy, the Colchester East Hants Health Authority has mirrored the 7 elements of the provincial strategy under the direction of the Tobacco Reduction Strategy Coordinator (TRSC). The District’s comprehensive strategic model (Logic Model) is based on evidenced-based best practices in tobacco control. The strategy focuses on changing social norms around tobacco through a balanced set of initiatives across all 7 elements of the strategy. The goal is to ensure that the citizens of Colchester East Hants have access to the services and information they require to make informed decisions regarding the reduction of tobacco. The TRSC works closely with Addiction Services and for more information on Smoking Cessation contact Addiction Services.
